Apply for the Live Your Dream Scholarship
Dave Young, founder and president of Paragon Wealth Management, created the “Live Your Dream Scholarship” in 2010. There will be multiple scholarships awarded each year up to $2,000 each and can be used for tuition for any university in Utah for an undergraduate or graduate student. The scholarship was in inspired by his daughter, Katie. Katie’s husband, Byron, passed away unexpectedly on October 21, 2005. Byron was an employee at Paragon Wealth Management at the time. Byron was a dear colleague, friend, and family member. His tragic death came as an unexpected shock to everyone who knew him. He added joy and meaning to many people’s lives.
When Byron passed away, Katie was left to provide for herself and three-month-old daughter. She decided to go to college to receive her bachelor’s degree. Katie searched for scholarships, but had a difficult time finding one for women in her situation. Notwithstanding, Katie persevered and after much effort was able to complete her bachelor’s degree in just two and a half years.
The Living Dream Scholarship was created to help single mothers in similar situations complete college and accomplish their dreams.

FAQ
Question: How long does my story have to be?
Answer: We prefer your story/narrative to be no longer than 3 pages. We understand that sometimes it takes longer to tell your story and if it goes longer than 3 pages, that is okay.
Question: I just barely got accepted to college/university. I don’t know any of my teachers/professors yet. What should I do about the letter of recommendation?
Answer: First – Congratulations on getting accepted! As far as the letter of recommendation goes, you have a few of options. If you are currently employed, you can have your employer write a letter of recommendation. If you got accepted into a graduate program, you can have one of your undergraduate professors write a letter of recommendation. You can have an ecclesiastical leader write a letter of recommendation as well. Lastly, if you are working closely to a counselor at school (i.e. academic, women’s success center, or financial) they can also write a letter of recommendation for you.
Question: Does the transcript have to be official?
Answer: We prefer an official transcript, but we also understand that there is a fee for an official transcript. A printed out unofficial transcript is also acceptable.
Question: I’ve sent in my application. Now what?
Answer: The Live Your Dream Foundation Board will review all of the applications. They will select the top 5-10 applicants to be interviewed. You will receive a letter notifying you if you were not selected to be interviewed.
Question: I’ve been selected for an interview. Now what?
Answer: Congratulations on being selected for an interview! Please treat the interview as if it was a job interview. You will be asked questions about your narrative, school, and career goals.
Question: I’ve been selected for an interview, but I can’t make it person. Is there an option for a phone interview?
Answer: If you cannot make it to the interview in person, there is always the option for a phone interview. When a Live Your Dream Foundation Board Member calls to schedule the interview, please let them know in advance that you will need to have a phone interview. Tell them the phone number you can be reached at.
Question: How will I know if I was selected for the scholarship?
Answer: You will receive either a phone call or a letter letting you know if you were selected for the scholarship.
Question: I was selected for the scholarship. What happens next?
Answer: If you were selected for the scholarship – CONGRATULATIONS!!! A Live Your Dream Foundation Board Member will work with you in sending the funds to your school to be applied to your tuition, fees, or books.
